BE LIKE WATER
"Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."
It is a famous quote by BRUCE LEE,
it marks the importance of being agile and changing ourselves according to the conditions around us, although it is an important dimension that is a topic for another day.
Today I am here to explain the hidden meaning, that most people miss.
BRUCE LEE was one of the most famous mindful athletes, people miss this side of his personality but mindfulness and meditation was a crucial part of his life
He was a martial artist of the highest order and being able to fight six men at once is not something you can do while your thoughts and emotions are active. Such tasks require extreme focus yet a relaxed state of mind, which is a sign of mindfulness.
Water is a perfect example of mindfulness.
The water might have many disruptions and distractions on the shore but the centre is deep and calm.
The water has the force to crack mountains yet it yields at the shore which teaches us to stop investing unnecessary efforts that end up causing more stress than happiness.
Being like water means responding rather than reacting to situations.
Instead of impulsively reacting we should choose to let the deep calm centre act rather than the distracted shore.
No matter how many distractions we face during the day,
Try to distance yourself from the shore and rest in the centre through daily meditation.
Water reminds us to stop putting efforts into the activities that tend to increase stress rather than happiness
Remind yourself to be like water,
Remind yourself to respond rather than react,
Remind yourself to let the deep calm centre take control of your actions rather than the impulsive shore.
Remind yourself to
"BE LIKE WATER"
